Digital Pass Lab Envisionly And Ariel University. In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, there is an increasing need for efficient methods to establish accessibility for people with print disabilities. The challenge of accessing print material is compounded as it pertains to Unicode text and symbols that are readable by software utilized by people with print disabilities in areas such as languages, medicine, sciences, and many other fields.
The problem is that digital print material is inaccessible with screen readers and or braille translation software because the screen reader and braille translator do not know what the Unicode symbols are. Further, Mainstream software companies that provide these types of accessibility are very expensive, nor do they have the knowledge or research and development budget to provide intelligent accessibility in every area mentioned above.
The solution is to provide the screen reader and braille translation software with the necessary information to be able to read the character with speech and to be able to translate the Unicode character into braille. It would be even better if this solution was free to everyone that needed it.
“Niv Louie,” is a cutting edge and groundbreaking software that has been designed to allow any user to provide the necessary information to two pieces of software, “NVDA” and “Lib Louis.” “NVDA” is a text to Speech screen reader which utilizes braille tables published by “Lib Louis” to provide braille support. Both of these software’s are free and open-source technologies. “Niv Louie” works with both of these software’s to make access to digital print material free to everyone, and it provides this access nearly instantly. Thus, these software’s work together to transform educational and professional content into easily readable and writable material by visually impaired users. Niv Louie” is also a free download for anyone who needs it.
“Niv Louie” transforms information stored in a csv file and converts it into readable information by “NVDA” and “Lib Louis.” The user provides the CSV with the following information:
After the CSV file is uploaded into “Niv Louie,” the user can perform the following tasks:
“Niv Louie” has completely provided access to several ancient Language’s, including Ugaritic and Akkadian. In years past, accessibility to Cuneiform was believed to be impossible for blind students. However. “Niv Louie” has allowed instant, and unprecedented access to digital Cuneiform documents, dictionaries, digital grammars, and even websites such as Oracc, and EBL by both speech and braille. For the first time ever, blind students can read and write these languages in MS Word, and even do the most in-depth research and contribute to their own respective fields of study in any environment where a screen reader is able to engage.
It is our theory that our software has the ability to revolutionize accessibility because it puts the power of access in the hands of the user. Thus, sciences such as chemistry, biology, astronomy, and many other fields of research are now much more accessible with the help of “Niv Louie.”
